Based on my 20 years of experience in software industry here are my reasons why I believe test automation career is having bright future!
Test Coverage or Scope of Automation
Coverage(or Scope) of Test Automation scripts grows over time it could be functional tests, Sanity or Smoke testing or even regression tests. In order to automation these tests would required more automation testers for developing these new scope or coverage and maintaining it.
Evolution of Automation Tools and Programming Languages
Automation testing tools/Programming languages too getting evolved over the period along with the technology evolution(not limit to UI).
Due to this reasons we will required solid automation testing team who can understand these evolution and cope up to these changes in technologies and automating it.
Code or Codeless Automation Tools
In near future automation is not just we are able to perform using coding but also we can get it done using codeless tools as well
Growth in Technical Roles
Being automation tester or SME If you are good in technical aspects, then you will have great career in the test automation field otherwise it would be difficult to handle the situation.
You will have lot of frustration to handle over period as you are not able to cope up for long run. Because in Future more of Technical roles will get hired in test automation field by the top companies like Amazon, Google, Microsoft ,Accenture, Wipro, Cognizant, Dell

If you have great learning attitude to Learn new technologies and tools on regular basis over period then it is very easy for you to adopt and survive in this field.
